- 0:00 G'day, I'm Dr Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
- 0:13 This is the Kookaburra Craze wand toy handle set. Cockatoo craze, you've got the bird-shaped toy, which is kind of just a copy of a cockatoo. I've just used different coloured fabrics, you know, natural feathers, so you use chicken and duck feathers on this one.
- 0:26 So if your cat does eat them, it's okay, like they will go through, don't get too worried. But if they do eat the fabric and the foam and toy part of the bird, that's not so good.
- 0:36 So anyway, all these attachments have bells on them as well. I'm trying to entice your cat in different ways with different toys so they don't just focus on one toy all the time.
- 0:46 You do get dogs like tennis balls, you do get cats that just like one specific toy. You want to try and get them to different toys, different excitement.
- 0:55 So if you lose one toy and it gets damaged, it's not as good. They're not happy.
- 1:01 This is the helicopter one. This one spins, makes more noise. This one is the most enticing for most cats. The helicopter I would say is the favourite toy and it works well with this kind of bendy wire wand.
- 1:14 Makes it kind of move more like a bird and goes really, really fast at certain points. Fast in the middle and then slow in the corners.
- 1:22 And then the third toy you've got is the jingle jangle or the dancing feathers. This one moves slower, but it does look bigger.
- 1:29 Cats tend to swipe at this one, but obviously there's not much to it because it's just, you know, just natural feathers.
- 1:34 This one's not too bad, but it's good to have a range of different toys. In the package, there's two of each toy.
- 1:40 That's the Kookaburra Craze. Yeah, Kookaburra Craze feather toy set with a wooden handle.
- 1:46 You want to have different toys to entice your cat in different ways. That's why, you know, I don't just sell one toy with each, you know, or one option.
- 1:54 You have three, you never know what your cat's going to like.

- 0:04 G'day, I'm Dr Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
- 0:13 This is what I call the Cockatoo Chaos feather toy set. This one's the wooden handle set, so obviously this one has a wooden handle with my logo in it. You know, it feels quite nice.
- 0:25 So this one, you know, it comes on metal wire, so the reason why it's long and dangly is because it kind of makes the bird a bit smoother when it moves around, so more of a natural one rather than a direct telescopic rod like the EMU rod.
- 0:39 So the feathers on there are natural chicken feathers, so if the cat accidentally eats them it's okay, but the body part is synthetic and it's got a bit of foam and plastic to it, so don't let them eat the body part.
- 0:50 It's got a bell on it, you know, good cat toy. The one set comes with more attachments, it's just that I've just got the three to show here now and the wooden handle.
- 0:59 So that's the Cockatoo bit on the end. It is very fiddly but it stays on okay.
- 1:05 So this is the helicopter feather toy attachment. The Cockatoo one has the white feathers and if I put it like this it looks like, you know, it spins around like a little helicopter but actually looks like a little bird.
- 1:16 This is Gary's favourite one out of this toy range, but he likes the EMU feather just because he likes the silver vine wood on there, but this has the, you know, obviously it can spin around, it looks like a little bird twirling around.
- 1:28 Most cats love this one, so that's why, you know, you can buy these toy attachments in packs of five, that's why the helicopter feather is the most popular.
- 1:37 You know, these bits are a little bit fiddly, so just make sure that your cat doesn't eat any of them.
- 1:42 And this is the jingle jangle or dancing feather, so this is the Cockatoo one.
- 1:46 Each of these toys has bells attached to it, so it makes it more exciting for the cat.
- 1:51 I'm trying to stimulate your cat because most cats just sit at home and do nothing all day. I want them to do stuff.
- 1:56 So this is the jingle jangle or dancing feather, this one moves a lot slower.
- 2:00 It's a bit smoother in terms of how it moves, it doesn't make the noise like the helicopter one, but some cats really like this one because it looks bigger, you know.
- 2:08 It's different things, like the bird obviously looks more like a bird, this is just like fluttering feathers and the helicopter is more like, I feel like the helicopter is the most enticing.
- 2:19 It's the most energetic for cats in terms of like, it makes like the whooshing noise and spins around.
- 2:26 This spins around, but it, you know, it's more of a slow mover toy.
- 2:30 The set comes with two of each, you know, two dancing feathers, two helicopters and two cockatoo birds, and this handle kind of curls up nicely like that.
- 2:40 Anyway.

How it works
Why feather refills keep cat wand play going

Five refills in every pack
One design and one colorway, five times over.
- Swap, do not replaceA refill with loose feathers comes off the clip, and the next one goes on.
- One wand, many sessionsThe PURRZ™ Feather Toy Wooden Handle Wand Set takes all three designs.

Three ways for prey to move
Each design moves differently on the end of the line.
- BirdFlutters and drops when the wand stops.
- Jingle JangleSwings on the line with two bells.
- Helicopter SpinnerSpins as it falls.

Colors named after Australian birds
Kookaburra Craze is brown and barred; Cockatoo Chaos is white with yellow strands.
- What the feathers areThe feathers are cleaned, dyed chicken feathers, and no native bird feathers are used.
How it works
Why the helicopter attachment works for a leaper

The drop is the trick
Flick the wand up and let the attachment fall.
- Three feathers make it spinThree feathers set at angles on a bead make it spin on the way down, slowly enough to track and fast enough to look alive, and that falling flutter is what a cat leaps for.
- A wounded bird or a helicopterRun it along the floor and it is a wounded bird; drop it from height and it is a helicopter. Two different hunts from one refill.

Swivel, bell, clip
Above the bead is a steel swivel, so the spinning attachment does not wind up the wand string, then a small bell and a short chain to a clip ring.
- Opens onto any wand stringThe ring opens and closes onto the loop at the end of any wand string, including the Bird Feather Wand Set's.
- Swap it in five secondsSwap it in five seconds, no knots.

Five, on purpose
A feather attachment is a consumable.
- Catches it properly, pulls feathersA cat who catches it properly pulls feathers, and one customer's seven-kilo cat breaks them off in a session. That is the toy working.
- Five in the boxFive in the box means one on the wand and four in the drawer, so the game does not stop when one goes. Put the wand away between games.
How it works
Why the white helicopter works for a leaper in a dim room

The drop is the trick
Flick the wand up and let the attachment fall.

White, for the floors and the hours cats hunt in
A cat's eye is built for movement in low light, not for colour.
- A white spinner she can trackOn a dark floor, under furniture or in the evening, a white spinner is the one she can track all the way down, and the pale feather against a dark room is why the leap happens.
- Kookaburra barring in daylightOn a pale carpet in daylight the kookaburra barring does the same job, which is the whole reason there are two.

Five, on purpose, and a swivel
A feather attachment is a consumable: a cat who catches it properly pulls feathers, and that is the toy working.
- Four in the drawerFive in the box means one on the wand and four in the drawer.
- A steel swivel above the beadAbove the bead, a steel swivel so the spin does not wind up your string, a bell and a chain to a clip ring that opens onto any wand loop. Drawer between games.
How it works
Why the kookaburra jingle jangle works for a cat who hunts by ear

Sound, then silence
A cat hunts with her ears before her eyes, and what she listens for is a pattern: a sound, a stop, a sound.
- Two small bells above the feathersTwo small bells above the feathers give the attachment exactly that when you drag it and stop it.
- She commits on the second twitchOut of sight behind a chair leg, hold it still, twitch it once, and she commits on the second twitch.
- The feathers are what she findsThe feathers are what she finds when she lands.

Kookaburra colours, for pale floors
White feathers with brown barred tips, bound under a swivel.
- The barring reads as a birdThe barring is what makes it read as a bird rather than a fluff of white, and it is the pack for pale carpet and daylight, where the plain white cockatoo one washes out.
- Cats see contrast and movementCats see contrast and movement rather than colour, so the choice between the packs is about your floor, not her taste. Swatters get both.

Clasp, two bells, swivel, and five of them
From the top: a short cord loop, a lobster clasp that snaps onto the loop of any wand string, the two bells, a steel swivel so a twisting cluster does not wind up your string, and the feathers beneath.
- Five in the boxA feather attachment is a consumable; a cat who catches it properly pulls feathers, and five in the box means the game does not stop when one goes.

Sound is the game

How to
How to use a cat wand toy safely

Clip it on
Close the clip and tug once before play.

Move it away
Drag it along the floor and behind cover, away from your cat.

Let your cat win
End the session with a catch, then a meal or a treat.

Watch for chewing
Take the toy away if chewing replaces batting.

Put it away
Wand and refills go in a drawer after every session.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, Emergency veterinarian and founder of PURRZ™
Feathers are not food, and a wand line left out can wrap around a cat. Stay with your cat for every session. If your cat swallows part of a toy, or vomits or stops eating after play, ring a vet the same day.
How to
How to play a wand game the cat wins

Clip one on
Open the ring, hook it through the loop at the end of the wand string, close it. Leave the other four in the box.

Play prey, not helicopter, first
Drag it along the floor in short runs and stops, behind a chair leg, out of sight. Let her stalk it.

Then drop it
Flick it up and let it spin down in front of her. Most cats leave the ground for the second or third drop.

Let her catch it
Every session ends with the attachment in her mouth and a minute to chew it. Pulling it away at the end is how cats learn the game is rigged.

Put the wand away
In a drawer, attachment and all. A wand left out is a string left out, and a string is the one toy that ends in surgery.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
A wand toy is for supervised play and goes in a drawer after it, every time, because a swallowed string is a surgical emergency and a cat will chew one when nobody is watching. The feathers pull out under a good catch and the bell is small: retire an attachment when either goes, and take the whole toy away from a cat who eats feathers rather than shaking them, because eating non-food things has causes and a vet should hear about it. The clip ring and chain are not for a cat to chew on unattended. If she vomits, strains or stops eating in the day or two after a play session and you cannot find all of an attachment, that is a same-day vet visit, not a wait-and-see.

Why I designed it
The part your cat catches is the part you replace.
I am an emergency and critical care vet who has worked in Sydney and Hong Kong. I designed the PURRZ™ wand range around clip-on attachments, so a worn attachment is replaced without buying a new wand.
Five in a pack means a frayed one comes off the line and the next one clips on in its place.
- Refills, not new wandsA worn attachment comes off the clip and the wand carries on.
- One clip for three designsThe bird, the jingle jangle and the spinner share the same clip.
- Clear about the feathersThe colorways are named after birds; the feathers are dyed chicken feathers.

Are these kookaburra or cockatoo feathers?
They are neither. Kookaburra Craze and Cockatoo Chaos are the names of the colorways, and the feathers are cleaned, dyed chicken feathers.
How many attachments are in a pack?
Each pack holds five, all in the design and colorway you choose. A pack of Kookaburra Craze Bird holds five brown barred birds.
Which wands do they fit?
They clip onto the PURRZ™ Feather Toy Wooden Handle Wand Set.
Is a wand included?
This pack holds the five refills only. The wand sets listed above each include a wand.
Can my cat play with these alone?
Wand toys are for play with you, not for a cat on its own. Put them away after every session, because a loose line or a swallowed feather can need a vet.
What if my cat chews the feathers?
Take the toy away and end the session. Feathers are not food, and a swallowed piece can need a vet. If your cat swallowed part of an attachment, or vomits or stops eating afterwards, ring a vet.
When should I change an attachment?
Change it when feathers come loose, the clip will not close or a bell loosens on the jingle jangle. The pack of five is there for this.
How long does shipping take, and can I return them?
We aim to process orders within 1 to 3 business days, then delivery is estimated at 5 to 10 business days. Unused items in their packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery by emailing hello@purrz.com.
