Three rules for choosing

Measure her curled up, nose to tail base. Under about 40 cm she sleeps inside; the house is rated to 7 kg, and a cat over that uses the roof.

Two cats: one on the roof and one inside works when they are friends, and the second door means the one inside is never cornered. In a multi-cat house the rule is one hiding place per cat plus one, and this counts as one.

Kittens: the inside is a good first hideaway because it is low, dark and has two ways out; the roof is a climb she will manage within weeks. Check the tabs are seated, because a kitten chews anything that sticks out.

How to get a cat to use a new house
Build it out of the bag
Felt smells of the bag it shipped in for ten minutes. Tab it together in the room she will use it in and let her supervise.
Put it where she already hides
Beside the sofa, in the corner she retreats to, near where she sleeps now. Not the laundry.
Leave both doors clear
Do not push the end opening against a wall; the second door is the point. A treat inside, her blanket on the roof, and two weeks before you judge it.
Play through the door
A wand or a feather attachment past the arch from outside; a nose at the window is the game the window was cut for.
Vacuum through the doors
Once a week, reach in through the arch and the end. Hair and felt fluff collect in the corners; take it apart for a proper clean.

Felt sheds a little at first, and a cat who eats the fluff or chews the tabs should have it taken away and the habit mentioned to your vet. Check the tabs are seated after assembly and after every clean, or a wall opens under a cat leaning on it. The roof is rated to 7 kg; a heavier cat on it bows the deck, which is a squashed house rather than an injury, but measure her before you count on it. A cat who starts hiding more than she used to, stops coming out for food, or stops using a spot she loved is telling you something is wrong: hiding is how cats show pain and illness, and it is a vet visit before it is a new bed. In a multi-cat house, one hiding place per cat plus one, or the shy cat never gets to use it. Keep it out of the sun in summer; felt holds heat. If you are unsure about any of this, ask your vet.

Most cat houses have one door, and for a shy cat in a quiet home that is right.

Is it a den or a perch?
Both. Inside is an enclosed felt room with an arched door at the front, an opening in the end and a small window; on top is a flat roof deck with a felt pad between two gable ends. A cat on her own uses both in a day, inside when the house is busy and the roof when she wants to see it. Two cats take one each.
How big is it, and will a big cat fit?
Assembled it is 52 cm long, 32 cm deep and 31 cm high, and it is rated to 7 kg. Measure your cat curled up, nose to tail base: under about 40 cm she sleeps inside. The doors are the limit for a big cat; a large Ragdoll or a Maine Coon will take the roof and may not bother with the inside.
Why two doors?
Because one door is a trap in a house with more than one cat. The cat inside can be cornered and the cat outside knows it, so the den stops being used. With a door at the front and an opening in the end, whoever is inside can always leave the other way. For a single cat it is simply a way in and a way to see out, and a house she is happier in for it.
Is it hard to put together?
It arrives flat at 36 by 32 by 9 cm and tabs together, no tools: the white felt tabs push through slots along the edges and are the fixings, not decoration. Build it in the room she will use it in, check the tabs are seated when you finish, and again after each clean. It comes apart the same way.
How do I clean felt?
Vacuum it or run a lint roller over it, reaching in through the arch and the end opening; a damp cloth for marks. For a proper clean, take it apart and do the panels flat. Do not put felt through the washing machine, it loses its shape. It sheds a little fluff in the first weeks, which is normal, and the roof pad collects hair, which is a lint roller job.
My cat has started hiding all the time. Will this help?
No, and please do not buy it for that. A cat who suddenly hides more, stops coming out to eat or stops using a favourite spot is showing you pain or illness, and that is a vet visit first. A hiding place is for a healthy cat's normal need to be out of sight sometimes, not a treatment for a cat who has changed.
What if it arrives damaged or my cat ignores it?
