- 0:00 A feather toy that lasts a year is a feather toy the cat never caught. These come five to a box because the catch is supposed to wreck them.
- 0:10 Three feathers on a bead, at angles, so it spins as it falls. A swivel so your string does not twist. A bell. A clip ring that goes on any wand loop. Wand not included, you have one.
- 0:22 Drag it first, like prey: short runs, stops, out of sight behind a chair. Then flick it up and let it spin down. Most cats leave the ground for the third drop.
- 0:34 Why white? Cats hunt in the half-light and see movement, not colour. On a dark floor in the evening the white one is the one she can follow all the way down. On pale carpet in daylight, get the kookaburra.
- 0:46 Every game ends with it in her mouth for a minute. Then the wand goes in a drawer, attachment and all, because a string left out is the one toy that ends in surgery.
- 0:55 Gary prefers the white ones, and I do not know why.

How it works
Why the white helicopter works for a leaper in a dim room

The drop is the trick
Flick the wand up and let the attachment fall.
- Three feathers make it spinThree feathers set at angles on a bead make it spin on the way down, slowly enough to track and fast enough to look alive, and that falling flutter is what a cat leaps for.
- A wounded bird, a helicopterRun it along the floor and it is a wounded bird; drop it from height and it is a helicopter. Two hunts from one refill.

White, for the floors and the hours cats hunt in
A cat's eye is built for movement in low light, not for colour.
- A white spinner she can trackOn a dark floor, under furniture or in the evening, a white spinner is the one she can track all the way down, and the pale feather against a dark room is why the leap happens.
- Kookaburra barring in daylightOn a pale carpet in daylight the kookaburra barring does the same job, which is the whole reason there are two.

Five, on purpose, and a swivel
A feather attachment is a consumable: a cat who catches it properly pulls feathers, and that is the toy working.
- Four in the drawerFive in the box means one on the wand and four in the drawer.
- A steel swivel above the beadAbove the bead, a steel swivel so the spin does not wind up your string, a bell and a chain to a clip ring that opens onto any wand loop. Drawer between games.
Size guide
What is in the pack, and which wands it fits
-
Fits any wand with a string that ends in a loop or a clip: the Bird Feather Wand Set, the suction cup set, a fishing-rod style wand, a string on a stick. It does not fit a wand with a fixed, sewn-on toy.
-
White or barred: white for dark floors and evening play, the kookaburra for pale carpet in daylight, and both if she is a leaper, because the second colour is a new bird. A cat who prefers ground prey wants the bird attachments dragged, not dropped.
-
Retire an attachment when a feather comes off the bead or the bell works loose. Loose feathers get eaten, and a bell is small enough to swallow. Five in the box is for this.

How to
How to play a wand game the cat wins

Clip one on
Open the ring, hook it through the loop at the end of the wand string, close it. Leave the other four in the box.

Play prey, not helicopter, first
Drag it along the floor in short runs and stops, behind a chair leg, out of sight. Let her stalk it.

Then drop it
Flick it up and let it spin down in front of her. Most cats leave the ground for the second or third drop, and the white one is easiest to follow in a dim room.

Let her catch it
Every session ends with the attachment in her mouth and a minute to chew it. Pulling it away at the end is how cats learn the game is rigged.

Put the wand away
In a drawer, attachment and all. A wand left out is a string left out, and a string is the one toy that ends in surgery.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
A wand toy is for supervised play and goes in a drawer after it, every time, because a swallowed string is a surgical emergency and a cat will chew one when nobody is watching. The feathers pull out under a good catch and the bell is small: retire an attachment when either goes, and take the whole toy away from a cat who eats feathers rather than shaking them, because eating non-food things has causes and a vet should hear about it. The clip ring and chain are not for a cat to chew on unattended. If she vomits, strains or stops eating in the day or two after a play session and you cannot find all of an attachment, that is a same-day vet visit, not a wait-and-see.
Why I designed it
The same spinner, in the colour she can see at dusk.
Cats hunt at dawn and dusk, which in a flat means the half-light after work, and they see movement and contrast far better than colour or detail. A white feather spinning down against a dark floor is the easiest target in the room; the same feather in brown barring disappears on a timber floor. That is the only difference between this pack and the kookaburra one: the bead, the swivel, the bell and the clip are the same, and so is the drop. Five to a box, because the catch is supposed to wreck them. Gary prefers the white ones and I do not know why.

Are these real cockatoo feathers?
They should not be, and this store's own suction cup set prints on its card that its feathers are cleaned chicken feathers, not cockatoo. The sulphur-crested cockatoo is a protected native bird in Australia and its feathers cannot be sold. White feathers styled as a cockatoo's are farmed-bird feathers in every case I have seen; the supplier confirms in writing which bird these are, and the specs say "to be confirmed" until then rather than guess.
Will it fit my wand?
If your wand has a string that ends in a loop or a small clip, yes: the attachment's ring opens, hooks through and closes. It fits the Bird Feather Wand Set, the suction cup set and the usual fishing-rod style wands. It does not fit a wand with the toy sewn on. The wand is not in this box.
White or kookaburra? What is the difference?
The attachment is the same: three feathers on a bead, a swivel, a bell, a clip. The colour is the difference, and it matters more than it sounds. Cats see movement and contrast, not colour, so white is the one she can follow on a dark floor or in a dim room, and the brown barring is the one that stands out on pale carpet in daylight. Leapers get both, because the second colour is a new bird.
Why five, and how long do they last?
Because a feather attachment is meant to be caught, and a caught feather toy loses feathers. A light cat gets weeks out of one; a big cat can break feathers off in a session and carry on playing with what is left. Five means the game does not stop when one goes. Retire an attachment when a feather comes off the bead or the bell loosens.
Is the bell safe?
It is small, which is why the attachment goes in a drawer after play and is retired when the bell works loose. A cat who chews the bell or the chain rather than the feathers should have the toy taken away. Nothing with a string or a small part stays out unsupervised, and that includes a wand standing in a suction cup base once you leave the house.
Is it right for a kitten or an older cat?
A kitten, yes, with short sessions and the attachment always ending in her mouth for a minute, so she learns the game pays. An older cat wants the ground game more than the leap: drag it, do not drop it, and a senior who has stopped chasing anything at all is worth a vet check before a new toy.
What if it arrives damaged or my cat ignores it?
Email hello@purrz.com within 7 days of delivery with a photo and your order number; faulty, damaged or incorrect items are covered and we pay the return shipping when the error is ours. A cat who ignores a dropped toy often wants it dragged first; start on the floor, and try it in the evening with the lights low.
