- 0:04 Good day. I'm Dr Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
- 0:13 Got the Cockatoo Chaos with sounds and then you got the Kookaburra Craze with sounds.
- 0:18 So each of these comes with two birds. They're exactly the same, so it's two of cockatoo or two of kookaburra.
- 0:27 I've just got the wooden handle to show you stuff, but this doesn't actually come in this package.
- 0:32 They do have a little plastic tab that you pull out so the battery is not used up while they're in shipping. When you pull that tab out, then they start to make these noises.
- 0:40 Anyway, these look the same as the other birds. They're a little bit fatter, but they do make these chirping noises, which are, you know, again, entices your cat.
- 0:49 So cockatoo, kookaburra, they're made with natural chicken feathers. They're all safe. You know, if your cat eats some of them, it's all right.
- 0:55 But I don't want the cat to eat, you know, the kind of the fabric part. There's some foam in there as well as some plastic. And obviously, these ones have a battery and mechanism in there for a speaker making the chirping noises.
- 1:06 So again, like these have a little clip. They do attach to any of my wands. So you can attach them to the Emu telescopic wand, or you can attach them to the wooden handle wand, or you can even attach them to the suction cup set, which is the suction cup handle.
- 1:19 So as these move, they make the chirping noise so your cat can swipe them and really like them. These come in a pack of two.
- 1:28 The cockatoo is more popular than the kookaburra, I think, just because it looks more elegant. You know, it's got the nice kind of yellow feather on its head as well as a bushy tail, and it's got the gold flowers on the side of its wings.

How it works
Why a bird that chirps back beats a silent feather, and what the battery means

The chirp is the cue
A cat's hearing runs well above ours, and the short, high sounds of small prey turn her head from across the room.
- This bird chirps when swattedA silent feather only works while it moves; this bird chirps when it is swatted, bitten or dropped, so a pounce that misses gets a reply and she goes again.
- Sound on top of flutterSound on top of flutter is the whole trick, and why a bored cat answers this one.

A bird on the wand you already own
A plush body with a feather crest and tail, a clip ring, a bell and a bead on a short chain: it hooks onto any wand string ending in a loop or clip, including the Feather Toy Wooden Handle Wand Set and the Emu Feather Toy Set.
- Drag it, lift it, it chirpsDrag it and it is a bird on the ground; lift it and it flutters; caught, it chirps in her mouth.
- Two in the boxTwo in the box, one per cat.

A battery inside, which changes the rules
The chirp comes from a module inside the plush body, and a module means a battery.
- For play with youIt is a wand toy for play with you, not one left on the floor; it goes in the drawer with the wand after every session; a chewer does not get it.

Three rules for choosing
-
Fits any wand with a string that ends in a loop or a clip: the Feather Toy Wooden Handle Wand Set, the Emu Feather Toy Set, the suction cup set, a fishing-rod wand, a string on a stick. Not a wand with a sewn-on toy. The wand is not in this box.
-
One cat, one bird, with you. Two cats each get a bird on their own wand; two cats on one bird is a fight over a thing with a battery in it. A cat who chews toys rather than shaking them plays with the silent bird attachments instead.
-
Kittens and old cats: a kitten, yes, in short sessions with the catch at the end and the toy away after. An old cat wants it dragged, not dropped, and a cat who stops responding to a sound she used to chase is a hearing and a vet question before she is a new toy.

How to
How to clip it on, how to play it, and where it lives between games

Clip one on
Pull the plastic tab out of the bird first: it keeps the battery from running down in shipping, and the bird is silent until it is out. Open the ring, hook it through the loop at the end of the wand string, close it. Give the bird a shake in your hand so you know what the chirp sounds like and what sets it off.

Ground first
Drag it along the floor in short runs and stops, behind a chair leg, out of sight. The chirp on the stop is what makes her commit.

Then the air, briefly
Lift it and let it flutter and drop. Two or three drops, not twenty; a cat who never gets close stops trying.

Let her catch it and hold it
Every session ends with the bird in her mouth for a minute. It chirps when she bites it, which is the payoff. If she starts to chew the body rather than the feathers, that is the end of the session.

Put the wand away, bird and all
In a drawer, every time. A wand left out is a string left out, and this bird has a battery in it as well.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
This toy has a battery in it, and a swallowed button battery is an emergency, not a wait-and-see: it burns the gullet within hours, and I have seen it. So it is a wand toy for play with you, put away after every session, never left on the floor, and never given to a cat who chews toys apart. A bird whose body has split, or whose battery cover is loose, goes in the bin that day. A wand string is a surgical emergency on its own if swallowed, so the whole thing lives in a drawer between games. Feathers pull out under a good catch; retire a bird when one goes, and take the toy away from a cat who eats feathers rather than shaking them, because eating things that are not food has causes a vet should hear about. If she vomits, strains, drools or stops eating after a session and you cannot find all of a bird, that is a same-day vet visit. A cat who stops answering a sound she used to chase is a hearing check before she is a new toy. If you are unsure about any of it, ask your vet.
Why I designed it
A cat hunts with her ears first. So the bird answers back.
Watch a cat in long grass: the ears go first, then the eyes, then the pounce.
- The sound that turns her headCats hear far higher than we do, and a short, high chirp is the sound that turns her head from across the room.
- Most feather toys are silentMost feather toys are silent, so the game only works while the feather is moving.
- A missed pounce gets a replyThis bird chirps when it is swatted or bitten, so a missed pounce gets a reply and the hunt keeps going.
- On the wand, with youIt has a battery in it, so it belongs on the wand, with you, and in the drawer after.
- Gary answers the chirpGary answers the chirp from two rooms away.

The chirping intensity feels appropriately startling for encouraging focused pouncing behavior. This attachment transforms wand play into realistic hunting sequences.
June 2026 The motion activated chirping sound creates realistic prey simulation driving predatory instincts. My cat's pouncing accuracy has improved noticeably through this engagement.

Shipping and returns
- Dispatch
- Tracking sent when it ships; dispatch and delivery times by country are on the shipping page.
- Delivery
- Tracked, worldwide. International orders may attract duties; a battery inside limits some routes.
- Returns
- Faulty, damaged or incorrect items are covered within 7 days of delivery. Email hello@purrz.com to start.
What is the battery, and can I change it?
The chirp comes from a small module inside the plush body. Treat it as a sealed button-cell toy: played with you on the wand, put away after, and binned the day the body splits, because a swallowed button battery is an emergency.
Will it fit my wand?
If your wand has a string that ends in a loop or a small clip, yes: the bird's ring opens, hooks through and closes. It fits the Feather Toy Wooden Handle Wand Set, the Emu Feather Toy Set, the suction cup set and the usual fishing-rod wands. It does not fit a wand with the toy sewn on. The wand is not in this box.
Can I leave it out for her to play with alone?
No. It has a battery in it and a string on it, and both belong in a drawer when nobody is watching. On the wand, with you, it is a very good toy; on the floor overnight it is a chew toy with a battery inside. Ten minutes a day with you does more for her than a toy left out does.
Why does the sound work when a silent feather does not?
Because cats hunt by ear first. Their hearing runs far above ours and the short, high sounds of small prey turn a cat's head from across a room. A silent feather only exists while it moves; a bird that chirps when she swats it replies to a miss, and the reply is what keeps her going. Cats who ignore wand toys often answer this one, and a cat who does not is a cat, not a fault.
Are they real cockatoo or kookaburra feathers?
No, and they should not be: both are protected native birds in Australia and their feathers cannot be sold. The feathers are natural chicken feathers, the same as on this store's suction cup set. The names are the colours: white with a yellow crest, or brown and barred.
Is it right for a kitten or an older cat?
A kitten, yes, in short sessions that end with the bird in her mouth so she learns the game pays, and with the toy away after, because kittens chew. An older cat wants it dragged rather than dropped, and the chirp helps a cat whose eyes are not what they were. A cat who has stopped answering sounds she used to chase is a hearing check and a vet visit before she is a new toy.
What if it arrives damaged or does not chirp?
Email hello@purrz.com within 7 days of delivery with a photo and your order number; faulty, damaged or incorrect items are covered and we pay the return shipping when the error is ours. A bird that does not chirp out of the box is silent until its plastic pull tab is out, so check the tab first. One that stays silent with the tab out is a fault, not a flat battery you should open the body to find; do not open it, send the photo.
