- 0:00 Good day. I'm Dr Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
- 0:03 This is the Seek, Sneak and Slay Cat Tunnel.
- 0:06 Anyway, it's like an S-tunnel. Seek, Sneak and Slay, S-S-S-S.
- 0:12 Same again: they can climb on top, they can go inside. Cats go in and out of it.
- 0:16 These toys are really lightweight and actually quite strong for how light they are.

How it works
Why the Sneak & Slay Tunnel works for an indoor cat

Tunnel first, bed second
The footprint is an S: in at one end, round the bend, out the other.
- The stalk, the ambush, then sleepA cat uses that for the stalk and the ambush, the parts of the hunt an indoor cat gets least of, then sleeps in the bend because it has walls on three sides and a roof.
- Two chambers, two catsTwo chambers means two cats who get on, or one cat who moves when the sun does.

The lid is the point
Most cats do not sleep in a cave all day.
- On top, seeing the doorThey sit on top of it, where they can see the door, and go inside when something worries them or to sleep off dinner.
- The lid takes a six-kilo catThe flat felt lid takes a cat: a buyer's six-kilo cat sits on it.
- Curled up with the roof closeUnder it the walls are 24 cm high, so a cat fits inside curled up with the roof close.

Felt, flat-packed
It arrives flat, 37 by 30 by 8 cm, and goes together with tabs through slots, no tools; the lid pegs on.
- Warm and quiet under clawsFelt is warm, quiet under claws and holds its shape.
- Lint-rolls or vacuums cleanIt sheds a little at first, lint-rolls or vacuums clean, and the lid lifts off to get to the inside. Grey walls, white lid.

Three rules for choosing
-
Measure her curled up, nose to tail base, the way she sleeps. Under about 35 cm she fits inside a chamber; over that, she will take the lid, which most cats do anyway.
-
Two cats: one in each chamber works if they are friends, but a cave is one cat's territory. In a multi-cat house the rule is one hiding place per cat plus one, and this counts as one.
-
Kittens: a good first hideaway because it is low and open at both ends. Check the tabs are seated, because a kitten chews anything that sticks out.

How to
How to get a cat to use a new cave

Build it out of the bag
Felt smells of the bag it shipped in for ten minutes. Put it together in the room she will use it in, and let her supervise, because she will.

Put it where she already watches from
Against a wall, facing the door, near where she sleeps now. Not in the laundry.

Leave it alone for a week
Do not put her in it. A treat in the tunnel, her blanket on the lid, and two weeks before you judge it.

Play through it
Run a wand or a laser dot through the tunnel; the ambush from the opening is the game the shape was built for.

Lift the lid and vacuum
Once a week. Hair and felt fluff collect in the bend.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
Felt sheds a little at first, and a cat who eats the fluff or chews the tabs should have it taken away and the habit mentioned to your vet. Check the connectors are seated after assembly and after every clean. A cat who starts hiding more than she used to, stops coming out for food, or stops using a spot she loved is telling you something is wrong: hiding is how cats show pain and illness, and it is a vet visit before it is a new bed. In a multi-cat house, one hiding place per cat plus one, or the shy cat never gets to use it. Keep it out of the sun in summer; felt holds heat. If you are unsure about any of this, ask your vet.
Why I designed it
Cats want to watch the room without being in it.
Half the cats I see for "hiding" are healthy cats with nowhere to hide properly.
- A wall, a roof, a viewA cat wants a wall at her back, a roof and a view of the door, and if you do not give her one she takes the top of the wardrobe or the space under the bed.
- The view from the lidThis one gives her the view from the lid.
- The hiding place underneathAnd the hiding place underneath.
- A tunnel for the ambushWith a tunnel through the middle for the ambush.
- Gary sleeps on topGary sleeps on top and goes inside when the vacuum comes out.
- More hiding is a vet visitIf your cat starts hiding more than she used to, that is not the house working. That is a vet visit.

My cats love this tunnel! Both as a hideaway and as a perch..or one loves to doze on top of it. The texture is very appealing . It was straightforward to put together yes sturdy enough once assembled, to take some enthusiastic play!

Will my cat actually use it?
Give it two weeks in the right spot: against a wall, facing the door, near where she sleeps now. Most cats start on the lid, because the lid has the view, and find the tunnel when a toy goes through it. A cat who never goes inside still uses the top every day, which is what the buyers here describe. Do not put her in it; a treat in the tunnel does more than a hand.
How big is it, and will a big cat fit?
Assembled it is 58 cm long, 40 cm deep and 24 cm high, in two joined chambers. Measure your cat curled up, nose to tail base: under about 35 cm she fits inside a chamber. A cat bigger than that, a Maine Coon or a large Ragdoll, will sit on the lid rather than in it, and the lid takes the weight: a buyer's six-kilo cat sits on it.
Is it hard to put together?
It arrives flat and goes together with tabs through slots, no tools. One buyer built it with her cat attacking the tabs as they went through, which slowed things down and is the normal way to build anything with a cat present. Check the tabs are seated when you finish and again after each clean.
How do I clean felt?
Vacuum it or run a lint roller over it; the lid lifts off so you can get to the inside. A damp cloth for marks. Do not put felt through the washing machine, it loses its shape. It sheds a little fluff in the first weeks, which is normal.
Is it good for two cats?
Two chambers help if the cats are friends, and the second cat usually takes the lid. But a cave is one cat's territory, and the rule in a multi-cat house is one hiding place per cat plus one, so a two-cat home wants three spots. A second Sneak & Slay Tunnel or a different cave counts.
My cat has started hiding all the time. Will this help?
No, and please do not buy it for that. A cat who suddenly hides more, stops coming out to eat or stops using a favourite spot is showing you pain or illness, and that is a vet visit first. A hiding place is for a healthy cat's normal need to be out of sight sometimes, not a treatment for a cat who has changed.
What if it arrives damaged or my cat ignores it?
Email hello@purrz.com within 7 days of delivery with a photo and your order number; faulty, damaged or incorrect items are covered and we pay the return shipping when the error is ours. A cat ignoring it in week one is normal: the right spot, a treat in the tunnel, and two weeks.
