Vet designed
Designed by emergency vet Dr Duncan Houston. Tested at home by Gary, a Ragdoll who took the den on day one and the perch on day two.
How it works

A frightened cat goes low and covered; a confident cat goes high and open; the same cat does both in an afternoon, depending on who is at the door.

A cat sits on the fridge because height is safety: nothing comes from behind and everything is in view.

Compressed felt panels clip into two stacked drums with a platform between them; it arrives flat in a 62.5 x 47 x 16 cm box at about 3 kg and comes apart the same way.
Size guide
About 3 kg packedOne cat per level; a wall behind it and about 40 cm of floor
120 cm tall
One cat per level. The perch is a platform about 40 cm across, which is one cat lying down; the den below is the same. Two cats use it as two places, not as one shared bed, and that is the point of it in a two-cat house.
A big cat: measure her curled up, nose to tail base, and compare it with the platform, about 40 cm across. A cat over about 6 kg also lands harder, so the tower goes against a wall for her, whatever her size.
Kittens and old cats: the perch is a jump from the floor, roughly 60 cm, with no step. A kitten manages it by four months and uses the den until then. An old cat who has stopped jumping that height needs a chair beside it or a lower tower, and a cat who gives up a height she loved is a vet visit before she is new furniture.

How to

Clip the lower drum together, seat the platform, then the upper wall. A tall felt shell needs its clips square, and the panels arrive pressed flat; give them a day standing up before you judge a seam.

Back to a wall, opening into the room, in the room the people use: beside the sofa, near the window. A tall light tower is not for the middle of a run.

Drag a wand up the outside and onto the platform once or twice, or leave a treat up there. Do not lift her onto it; a cat put somewhere leaves it.

Push the top: a clip that has crept moves the whole upper drum. Re-seat it, and check again after any move or a hard landing.

Felt holds fur; a lint roller keeps it cream. A damp cloth for marks, and let it dry. Take the ball off if the cord starts to fray.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
A 120 cm tower on a 40 cm footprint stands on its own weight, so it goes against a wall and not where a running cat hits it side-on; check the clips after the first week and after any move, because a loosened panel is a tower that folds with a cat in it. One cat per level. The ball hangs on an elastic cord: fine for swatting, not for chewing, and a cat who chews cord swallows cord, which is surgery; take the ball off the day she starts. A cat who eats felt rather than scratching it loses access, and the habit is one to mention to your vet, because eating things that are not food has causes. A cat who stops jumping to a perch she loved, or lands badly, is a vet check for her joints before she is a new tower; giving up height is one of the earliest signs of arthritis in cats, and it is common and manageable. Keep it away from open windows and balcony rails: height indoors is safety, height beside an opening is a fall. If anything about how she uses it worries you, ask your vet.
Why I designed it
Watch a cat through an afternoon: under the bed when the vacuum comes out, on the wardrobe when the doorbell goes, and both are the same instinct: be somewhere nothing can arrive from behind.

FAQ
It is 120 cm tall. The footprint is a circle about 40 cm across, so it takes a corner; allow a wall behind it.
She jumps: the platform sits at about half height, roughly 60 cm, with no step. That is nothing for a healthy adult cat, and a kitten manages it by about four months, using the den until then. An old cat who no longer jumps that height wants a chair beside it or a lower tower, and a cat who has stopped jumping to a place she loved is a vet visit first: that is how arthritis shows in cats.
It is 120 cm tall on a 40 cm footprint and weighs about 3 kg, so it stands on its own weight, like every free-standing tower, and it goes against a wall, not in a run where a cat hits it side-on. Check the clips after the first week and after any move.
Yes, as two places: one in the den, one on the perch, which is exactly how two cats want to share anything. What they will not do is share the perch. In a two-cat house the fights are usually about who gets the high place, and a second high place, at a different height, is the fix. If both want the top, the second cat gets the Window Hammock or the Catstronaut Starship.
No. Felt takes claws without complaint but it is not a scratching surface, and a cat who scratches on the way up will not get the stretch she gets from sisal or paper rope. Put a post beside it: the Scratch Me Happy Scratching Post is 60 cm of paper rope on a wooden base. A tower she climbs and a post she scratches next to it is the setup that saves the sofa.
For swatting, yes: a plush ball on an elastic cord at paw height from the den is a good idle-time toy. The risk is the cord, not the ball. A cat who chews cord can swallow it, and swallowed cord is surgery, so watch her with it for the first week and take the ball off the day she starts chewing rather than batting.
